A new data-based trend is developing, and it’s encompassing nearly every industry. How businesses handle the data they possess will be instrumental to their success or failure within the next five years, according to a recent report from reportbuyer.com.

“The management of unstructured data (e.g. Big Data), the leveraging of analytics tools to derive value, and the integration between Cloud, Internet of Things (IoT), and enterprise operational technology are key focus areas for large companies across virtually every industry vertical,” the report determines.

The way companies are collecting, sharing, selling and analyzing data has altered the way businesses operate, and interact with their competitors and consumers. The rising importance is putting a greater onus on the ERP technology as the tool for obtaining and interpreting that data.

The report also investigates the market for cloud computing, and makes a robust projection for its market opportunities by 2022. The latter finding is perhaps unsurprising given the report’s valuation of big data analysis and ownership. While ERP technology might be necessary to handle big data, SaaS is equally necessary to convert data into useful products or services in the marketplace.

These latest findings are consistent with other recent reports that have projected cloud technologies and services rendered through the cloud to be achieving a new level of importance among big companies and small.

The report also lends credence to the concept that business software once thought of as a luxury is rapidly becoming a necessary tool for survival in a changing market, regardless of industry.
